About the event

Functional Anatomy for Yoga Asanas

The programme is based on a solid understanding of Anatomy in asana yoga practice. Including knowledge of functional anatomy and anatomy of movements, pranayama, meditation through the arts of the 8 limbs of Patanjali yoga sutra.

Our thought

As a yoga teacher, I have few members who come into the class with an idea of wanting to improve their physical and mental health. On the physical aspect, there are few practitioners that just practice yoga to straighten the muscularity and increase flexibility. Also there are few that use the movement of yoga’s asanas to heal post injury. There are several occasions that members ask if yoga could help their health issues. Or, some students are less physically able to carry what lesson plans was expected. How can we help them!

Application and requirement

Applicants must be a certified yoga teacher,  yoga teacher trainee, and fitness professional.

Programme Content

The programme contains five modules. Each module is designed to use movements and practice to explain Anatomy which makes it easier to understand the Anatomy’s functions rather than remember names.

Module 1: Forward Bend

Module 2: Back Bend

Module 3: Twist

Module 4: Hips

Module 5: Arms, shoulders, and feet

You can expect

  • Muscles and Skeleton Anatomy plane. This can be used to continue to the full Level 3 ITEC -Anatomy for Yoga Teacher Course with Health Skilled.

Your Trainers

Ace Pittapan is a Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance Professionals UK. He created his Yoga Teacher Training Programme by blending his own characteristic vinyasa flow and therapeutic yoga teaching styles with his first-hand experience of different yoga teacher training delivery patterns.

Ace became a certified yoga teacher in 2009 after completing a 260 hour Master of Practice course with Adrian Cox, and a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training course with Larry Schultz.

On the first day of the Master of Practice course, Adrian asked everyone what their motivation was for taking the course. Ace’s answer was that he wanted to use yoga as an alternative form of rehabilitation for people with impaired mobility. Since then, throughout his yoga teaching journey he has sought more knowledge so that he can help others to improve their own health and he has chosen to go deeper into those techniques that can be used by those who practice yoga with him.

Sonia Perez-Baeza is a Yoga Teacher and Level 3 Pilates teacher. She delivers vinyasa flow classes at a range of gyms and fitness centres. She is a DRU Yoga Meditation Teacher and enjoys sequencing classes incorporating pranayama, vinyasa, yin and restorative phases to suit the participants in the class.

Her study of anatomy and physiology stems from her BSc Sports Science degree and during her yoga teacher training she studied advanced anatomy with David Keil. She has a MA Education specialising in wellbeing.
